I commute to work on the train a lot and I’m often underground with no internet service. I needed a way to update my blogs without using a browser while disconnected from the internet. I use Windows so I chose from the list below. I found a website that has more Blog Editors here (WordPress Desktop Applications)
- BlogDesk – supports German and English
- Chrysanth WebStory – freeware
- Ecto – 21-day trial
- LIPIDr Blog Client – freeware, last version: 2007
- Microsoft Word 2007
- Post2Blog – detailed WordPress instructions
- Zoundry Raven – open source
- w.bloggar – freeware, last version: 2007
- WB Editor
- Windows Live Writer
- WordPress Comments notifier – open source
Of the above listed I narrowed it down to the 4 listed in the picture. I pretty much choose from the ones that the websites were still live and free to use. Here are some of my notes on the products after using them all in order from least to most favorite.
Zoundry Raven – Not much to say on this one. I thought I would really like it, but it was my least favorite. I was getting lots of errors and didn’t even get to post one blog, I just gave up! (+1 for install to thumb drive)
Qumana – This one looked promising, the user interface was bubbly and colorful. It wasn’t the most intuitive and it didn’t post to my blog correctly. (+1 for built in ad generator)
BlogDesk – This one is pretty much tied for first, its simple and easy! (+1 because it just works)
Windows Live Writer – This not only comes preinstalled on your Windows 7 computer (assuming you have the Microsoft Essential Pack), but it also has the normal Microsoft Office layout we all are used to and love. Its very easy to use, nice interface, has all the features that the above programs have (minus the install to thumb drive feature).
I might have not provided much information, but I thought this might help someone as it should save you some time when looking for a Blog Editor (WordPress Desktop Applications).
